Sunday’s thrilling 3-2 victory over New York City FC II was one to remember for midfielder Shuma Sasaki.
Not only did the early-season addition earn his first professional start, but Sasaki also contributed in a big way, earning Revolution II a crucial penalty kick in the 61st minute and converting in the 62nd to give New England a brief lead.
Following the match, Sasaki talked about what the goal meant to him, his acclimation to Revolution II, and his experience with the first team. Sasaki has had to catch up to speed quickly since his April 1st signing, but it’s something he’s starting to feel more comfortable with.
“Obviously, I came to this team pretty late. So it took me like a month," he told The Blazing Musket. "I'm really happy about it. It already feels like home.”
The Revolution’s Open Cup loss to Orlando City on April 29 saw Sasaki come on in the closing minutes of the defeat. Despite his newness to the organization, Sasaki credited some familiar faces for helping him feel more comfortable in the situation.
“I had Coach Sean (Hughes). He was at Michigan with me, so I enjoyed playing with him," Sasaki said. "I also knew Marco (Mitrović), too, because I played with his son at college. So I really enjoyed playing for them.”
