Sunday saw Pablo Moreira and his Revolution II side get back on track as the club secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over New York City FC II thanks to penalty kick goals from Myles Morgan and Shuma Sasaki, and another strike from Damario McIntosh.
Following Sunday’s result, Moreira discussed the result, the group’s mentality, player development, and recent success in finding the net. Prior to Sunday’s result, it had been tough sledding for Moreira and Revs II as they went winless in their previous four outings with three losses and a draw.
“It was very important," he told The Blazing Musket. "I think we've gone 3 games without a win. I know we tied some, but it was just one of those games where you want to get over the hump, and I think we did that with the team performance.”
You can’t get the type of result Revolution II got on Sunday without a team with a strong mentality, and it’s something Moreira gave his players credit for.
Since his arrival ahead of the 2026 season, Moreira has emphasized the importance of developing young prospects into first-team caliber players. It’s something we saw highlighted greatly in this year’s Open Cup run, as several young first teamers got another look while Revolution II’s Shuma Sasaki, Jayden Da, Javaun Mussenden, Schinieder Mimy, and Gabe Dahlin got some of their first looks with the first team.
“They put in the work each and every day," Moreira said. "So for me, that's why we're doing it, right? To prepare them to that next level, and it's awesome when you see them go there and then perform to their ability and then come back here and there's no downshift.”
