The New England Revolution suffered a 2-1 defeat to Toronto FC which marked their second consecutive loss. While it is the first poor run of form since the start of the 2026 campaign, the Revolution are not greatly concerned with the recent results.
The Revs opened the match with some quality chances including a Peyton Miller scissor kick attempt in the fifth minute and a Jack Harrison curler in the 18th minute.
But the match was paused in the 35th minute as Toronto's Richie Laryea and Miller clashed heads. Both walked off the pitch bandaged but Miller had his night end early even though he hoped to continue on. The teenager was replaced by Griffin Yow.
“Regarding Peyton [Miller], he had that collision," Revolution head coach Marko Mitrovic said. "He feels good. Obviously, he had that concussion. We’ll see what’s going to be the recovery process, but in general, he feels good.”
Soon after, Toronto would find the back of the net through a Theo Corbeanu effort down the same flank that Miller previously inhabited. The winger blew by Will Sands and the defender tried to recover but deflected the shot, and goalkeeper Matt Turner was left in no man's land.
Soon after the opener, Niklas Dorsch launched a blast from distance in first-half stoppage time. Turner dove to the top corner but nothing was stopping the shot from finding the back of the net.
“I felt that the whole game, we had full control and I think we played some very good soccer tonight," Mitrovic told the media when asked by The Blazing Musket about the match. "There were two moments, where I would say I feel [like] in the last couple of games, certain things go against us. We just have to work hard to keep pushing, to turn luck back on our side. As I said, I have nothing [negative] to say to the guys. They played great soccer, they gave everything tonight, and we are walking off the field with no result. But that is soccer, we just have to keep going and keep moving forward. That’s what we have been doing the whole season and that’s what we’re going to do starting now.”
Wilson Harris would find a goal late in the game but it was too little too late.
There were concerns about the Revs at the start of the season. The club lost two straight games but managed to recover and go on a run that elevated New England to the top of the Eastern Conference.
Considering the Revs are in a similar situation now, they aren’t hitting the panic button.
"It's frustrating," Turner said. "Obviously, we’ve lost two games in a row, but I wouldn't go as far as saying we're having current struggles. We're still in third place in the Eastern Conference, but we know that we're leaving points out there on the table. In October and November, the business end of the season, every point that you can get along the way really matters. Of course, we're happy with some of the moments in the game, but similar to last weekend it's two moments out of the blue. In the Houston game, it was similar - the one attacking set piece and the one defensive set piece. We just have to be ready at all moments to make the plays that we need to make."
New England has earned some trust. These poor performances have been an anomaly rather than the expectation.
But fans will be expecting a marked improvement when New England faces D.C. United. If New England goes on its longest losing streak of the season thus far and is still dealing with injuries, then more concern will arise and be justified.
