The Athletic’s Tom Bogert is reporting that the New England Revolution have reached an agreement with French side Olympique Lyonnais to bring the American netminder back to New England on loan through the remainder of the 2026 MLS season and includes a purchase option.
After spending several years away, the Park Ridge, New Jersey native returned to the place where he began his professional career when New England secured him via loan on August 1 2025. Turner went on to end the 2025 campaign tallying two clean sheets in 10 appearances.
2026 has seen Turner have another great season between the posts as he’s tallied three clean sheets in 14 appearances while leading the league in goals prevented (6) and has the second-highest save percentage (76.9%).
Questions loomed over Turner’s future entering the World Cup break as the initial loan from Lyon expired on June 30th.
When asked about the possibility of bringing Turner back, newly appointed GM and Chief Soccer Officer Chris Tierney said the organization was in talks with Lyon on a way to bring the goalkeeper back to New England that “makes sense for all three parties.”
It’s worth noting that Bogert reports this new loan for Turner does not see Turner occupy a Designated Player spot, which is massive for New England, who are “evaluating a number of options to bring in a Designated Player this summer.”
Turner returns to the Revs after spending the World Cup with the United States Men’s National Team during its World Cup run that ended in the Round of 16 following a disappointing 4-1 loss to Belgium. He started one match.
Turner and the New England Revolution return to MLS action on July 22 when they host Toronto FC at 7:30 PM.
