Revolution II hit the road on Wednesday for a rainy mid-week matchup against FC Cincinnati II at NKU Stadium. The team made a total of three changes to their line-up from their last match against Carolina Core FC as Tiago Suarez, Patrick Leal, and Cristiano Oliveira all earned starts this week.
For the second match in a row Revs II opened the scoring in just the 3rd minute. Marcos Dias netted his first goal of the season after defender Damario McIntosh’s initial attempt bounced out, allowing Dias to head home the rebound. With his goal tonight, his 16th career goal with New England; Dias now sits just one goal shy of tying the team’s all-time lead at 17.
Cincinnati was able to respond in just the 19th minute after Amir Daley was able to finish off a wild rebound from close range and soon found themselves with an advantage.
New England went down a man in the 35th minute after a scuffle saw defender Hesron Barry headbutt Cincinnati’s striker, resulting in a straight red. Daley then scored his second goal of the match to give the hosts the lead just twenty minutes later in the 39th minute, wasting no time to capitalize on Cincinnati’s man advantage.
Revs II made a total of four changes to start the second half as Colby Quiñones, Luka Borovic, Joshua Bolma, and Gevork Diarbian replaced Andrej Bjelajac, Leal, Oliveira, and Dias. With his appearance, Quiñones tallied his 80th career appearance with Revolution II, the most in team history. The visitors made their fifth and final substitution in the 77th minute as Alex Monis checked into the match for Malcolm Fry.
Despite playing down a man for most of the match New England were able to put on a strong defensive performance, holding Cincinnati to just two first half goals. Despite creating several opportunities to equalize throughout the second half New England could not capitalize, resulting in its second loss of the season.
New England will travel next to Belson Stadium in Jamaica, NY to take on New York City FC II on Sunday, April 14th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM EST and can be watched on MLSNEXTPro.com.
The red card hurt them for sure. Could have a better out come without it.
