New England Revolution II:
After playing their first four seasons in the confines of Gillette Stadium, New England Revolution II will embark on a new journey this weekend as they host their inaugural home match at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium. Sunday marks the first of eight home games Revs II will play in New Hampshire.
WIlliams and Revolution II will look to use Sunday’s meeting with Miami as an opportunity to overcome their early season woes. The club enters matchweek seven in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with five points on a 1-3-1 record and one shootout victory.
After back-to-back losses to FC Cincinnati 2 and New York City FC II, where they were outscored 8-3, fortune turned Revs II’s way in their last outing against Toronto FC II.
Despite Julian Altobelli getting Toronto on the board just seven minutes into the match, Revs II stayed determined, which led Marcos Dias to find the equalizer in first-half stoppage time. Neither side found the back of the net in the second 45, as things ended in a 1-1 draw.
With New England and Toronto taking one point each, both sides entered the shootout looking to gain an additional point. After seven action and dance-packed rounds, Revs Academy graduate Alex Parvu stepped to the spot in his professional debut and drilled the ball into the net to give Revs II the 5-4 shootout victory.
Speaking of Marcos Dias, Sunday could see the 22-year-old make club history. Dias’ game-tying goal against Toronto pushed his total in a Revolution II kit to 17, which tied Damian Rivera's record for most in team history.
Williams will be without forward Olger Escobar, who's currently on international duty with Guatemala’s U-18 squad, as they participate in the UEFA Friendship Tournament.
Inter Miami II:
Federico Higuain’s second season at the helm of Inter Miami II has gotten off to a good start. Miami comes into Sunday’s match in fifth place in the Eastern Conference with 10 points on a 3-1-1 record.
A large part of Miami II’s success has come from 2024 MLS SuperDraft pick Leo Alfonso, who’s racked up a staggering four goals in just two appearances with the club.
Inter Miami II have been firing as a whole as they’re tied for third alongside Philadelphia Union II for most goals in the Eastern Conference with 12 through their first five games. Yet they’ve allowed just as many as they find themselves in a three-way tie along with Atlanta and Revolution II for most goals conceded in the Eastern Conference.
After starting their 2024 campaign with a four-game unbeaten run, things came crashing down in their last outing when they suffered a 6-2 defeat on the road against MLS NEXT Pro newcomer Chattanooga FC.
Previous Meetings:
Sunday marks the ninth all-time meeting between New England and Miami, which dates back to both squad's time in USL League One. Revolution II holds the historical advantage with a 6-2-0 record with five of their wins being shutouts.
After securing wins in the first four meetings where Revs II outscored Miami 7-1, Miami secured back-to-back wins in 2022. Ever since, Revolution II has secured back-to-back shutout victories.
