Revolution Acquire Leonardo Campana
The Ecuadorian forward joins New England after spending the past three seasons with Inter Miami.
The New England Revolution added a massive weapon to its attack Thursday evening when the club announced the signing of forward Leonardo Campana from Inter Miami.
After starting his career in Ecuadorian side Barcelona SC Guayaquil, the attacker went on to have spells with English side Wolverhampton Wanderers, Portuguese side FC Famalicão, and Swiss side Grasshopper Club Zurich before joining Inter Miami on-loan from Wolves on January 20th, 2022.
After ending the 2022 season with 12 goals and an assist in 28 appearances across all competitions, Miami made Campana’s move to Miami permanent on January 20th, 2023.
During his three seasons in South Beach, the Ecuadorian forward has an even 100 appearances across all competitions, where he tallied 32 goals and eight assists over 5,269 minutes.
Campana’s time in Miami also saw him assist in securing the 2023 Leagues Cup title and 2024 Supporters’ Shield titles while helping Miami set the MLS regular season points record after ending the 2024 season with 74.
Campana also has experience at the international level with Ecuador. He helped the South American nation secure the 2019 U20 South American Championship. Since making his senior debut on March 22nd, 2019, Campana has made 16 appearances for the nation.
Inter Miami received a good haul in return for Campana, which includes $2,000,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money, $500,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money, a 2025 international roster spot, a 2026 international roster spot, plus up to $750,000 in General Allocation Money if certain objectives are met. Miami also holds a future sell-on clause.
Sporting Director Curt Onalfo said Campana is “a proven goal scorer whose arrival strengthens a crucial position of need for our team as we work to improve our offensive production this season.”
Revolution head coach Caleb Porter is also excited to add the No. 9.
“Leo has proven himself as a consistent goal scorer in our league and produces goals in a variety of ways,” Porter said. “He is strong in the air, intelligent with his movement, good in the box, and has the technical ability to also create goals for himself. Leo is another addition who is in the prime of his career and is hungry and capable of achieving even more. I am excited to get on the field with him in January.”
Campana himself is excited for the move up north.
“I am thrilled to join the New England Revolution and can’t wait to give my all for this incredible club,” he said. “I’m looking forward to connecting with the fans and chasing success together.”
The price is probably too high but whatever. It cost money to get a guy who’s proved he can score in this league. Can’t afford to have another import to stall once they get to the league. I do wish Onalfo talked Miami down a little on the very steep price, but this is a good move from someone who is a career failure everywhere he goes
Okay, it’s go time I guess
