Hearts of Pine Midfield Begins to Take Shape
Ollie Wright signs with club
Portland Hearts of Pine have signed 25-year-old attacking midfielder Ollie Wright.
The midfielder was born in London, England and played soccer during his youth at Fulham Academy and Brentford's Community Sports Trust program.
Wright moved to the United States in 2016 to attend college at St. Mary's University in Texas. He joined the St. Mary's Rattlers and promptly began to accumulate awards, including being named All-Heartland Conference Third Team in 2018. He was also named Lone Star Conference Player of the Year and Lonestar Conference Midfielder of the Year in 2019.
In 2019, Wright set a League Two assist record with USL League Two club Corpus Christi FC, with 15 assists in just 14 appearances. The midfielder made his professional debut for San Antonio FC in 2021 and in 2023 he spent two seasons with MLS NEXT Pro side Huntsville City FC. In 2024, Wright contributed two goals and four assists in his 26 appearances for a laboring Huntsville FC that finished 14th on the year.
The midfielder brings a one-touch quality on the ball that will help cut through, around, and over opposing defensive lines.
“I promise to do everything in my power to help give the state of Maine a team to be proud of, both on and off the field,” Wright said.
Hopefully, the midfielder can help the Hearts set plenty of new records during what promises to be an exciting first year for the team, the players, and the fans alike.
