New England Revolution Go Winless In 2024 Preseason
Well at least it is only preseason
The New England Revolution dropped their final preseason match of 2024 as FC Cincinnati notched a 5-2 victory over the Revs.
It’s important to note after the 0-0 draw against the Philadelphia Union, it was essentially a backup squad against a full-strength Cincy squad.
Earl Edwards Jr. got the start in net while Ryan Spaulding, Tiago Suarez, Jonathan Mensah, and Collin Smith (Revs II) made up the back line. Noel Buck and Ian Harkes served as holding midfielders while Tommy McNamara, Nacho Gil, and Ema Boateng played in more advanced roles. Bobby Wood was the lone striker up top.
In the 35th minute New England converted on a free kick as Cincy committed an own goal. A minute later Kubo was sent off from Cincinnati and a replacement was put in. FC Cincy equalized four minutes later with Lucho Acosta leveling the scoreline.
At half it was 1-1 and New England only made one change as Jacob Jackson replaced Edwards Jr. The next update fans received informed them that Jack Panayotou had entered the match and scored a curler but Cincinnati was still leading with a 3-2 scoreline.
Luckily FC Cincy had a live blog with some more details. Pavel Bucha scored Cincy’s second goal of the match in the 60th minute and a trialist scored in the 69th minute. Panayotou scored in the 71st minute.
Aaron Boupendza notched the fourth goal of the match in the 78th minute and he added another in the 82nd minute.
With that, New England’s preseason concludes without a win. Now the club will look forward to its Concacaf Champions Cup match against CA Independiente in Panama next week.
Going to be an interesting season.
So, can we compare the preseason opponents to the Revs’ opponents for their first three games? Results will tell, sure. Is the bet with the preseason schedule that Independiente and DCU are a notch below the teams scrimmaged?
