From Academy prospect to Revolution II to Estonia and back, it’s been a wild ride for goalkeeper Max Weinstein, and it all came full circle in recent weeks as the 22-year-old made his 2026 season debut for New England Revolution II.
With first-team goalkeepers J.D. Gunn and Donovan Parisian away, Weinstein made his first appearance for Revs II in almost a year when he started between the sticks on June 7 against FC Cincinnati 2. The Montpelier native ended the afternoon with two big saves, which sealed a 1-0 win for Revs II and Weinstein’s seventh career clean sheet.
June 14 saw another two-save performance as he helped guide the club to a monumental 2-1 victory at home over the reigning MLS NEXT Pro Cup Champions, Red Bull New York II.
Despite making four incredible saves, Chicago Fire II bested the young keeper with two insane, unsavable efforts, as the road side walked out of Beirne Stadium with a 2-1 victory.
The past 365 days have been a wild ride for Weinstein. After making four appearances in 2025, Revolution II loaned the young keeper to a struggling Kalev Tallin side in the Estonian Premium Liiga on July 3, 2025.
Weinstein went on to appear in 16 matches for the club, but the hole had been dug way before Weinstein’s arrival as Kalev finished the year dead last in the standings with just 17 points in 36 matches and was relegated to the Esiliiga.
Despite the results, Weinstein was incredibly grateful for the opportunity to learn.
“Playing for a team that was fighting in a regulation battle forced me to step up in big moments, and it taught me that everything is perspective within this game," Weinstein told The Blazing Musket. "One takeaway I left with is when you change the way you look at things, that things you look at change. Learning this allowed me to look internally at situations and grow from the inside out, without external events fazing me.”
Weinstein’s return to New England saw him encounter a big change as the club introduced Pablo Moreira as the club’s new coach and marked the third coach he’s played under as a member of Revolution II.
“I have loved working with Pablo this season," the goalkeeper said. "He is a coach who pushes me and the team to raise our level every single training session. Pablo sees everything and has coached and won at the highest level in America. Being able to be coached by an MLS champion [as an assistant coach] allows me to learn new things and see even smaller details that are the next level.”
Weinstein will look to continue learning and growing as Revolution II returns to action, traveling north of the border to take on Toronto FC II on June 28 at 3 PM.
