Season two of Up The Hearts, the critically-acclaimed documentary chronicling Portland Hearts of Pine, debuts on Sunday, May 31 at 7:30 pm on NESN. It will be available on YouTube in the coming weeks.
Last year, the Knack Factory produced nine episodes recounting Hearts' story from conception through their semifinal playoff run. Along the way, they highlighted Maine's burgeoning soccer community.
"I actually didn't think we'd be doing another season, because it was tough to do that first season, but it was clear that it needed to be done," Knack Factory owner Kurt Graser said. "This community really enjoyed it. We, as a team, really enjoyed it."
The newest episode recaps the 3-1 win over the New York Cosmos and 1-0 loss to Vermont Green FC, while also giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the team's media day.
Graser and his team are a fixture at Fitzpatrick Stadium, capturing the highs and lows. This year, they anticipate traveling to more road games while continuing to offer in-depth player profiles.
Having worked so closely with the club for over a year, Graser can confirm what we've all assumed.
"Everybody that is associated with this team – from the players to the front office staff to the community members – they're all good people trying to do good work.
"I’ve worked in sports for over 20 years; that is not the norm."
Tonight's launch of season two is exciting for Graser, who hopes to get more good news at the Boston/New England Emmys next weekend. Up The Hearts is nominated in three categories, going against shows about the Celtics, Patriots, and Red Sox.
To be nominated is an honor; to win would bring a whole other set of emotions.
"I'm still having a hard time processing it," Graser said. "Being nominated for three Emmys is just incredible. It's a testament to my team and the folks behind the show. We made a really good product that people want to see."
