Sunday saw Pablo Moreira and New England Revolution II return home to Beirne Stadium, welcoming New York City FC II as Revs II looked to get back in the win column. The home side was able to walk away with a 3-2 victory.

Pablo Moreira made four changes from the lineup that played to a scoreless draw and suffered a 6-4 shootout defeat to regional rival CT United FC. Donovan Parisian returned in goal behind the backline of Schinieder Mimy, Chris Mbai-Assem, Gabe Dahlin, and Damario McIntosh. Allan Oyirwoth, Eric Klein, and Javaun Mussenden formed the midfield three behind the attacking trio of Cristiano Oliveira, Shuma Sasaki, and Myles Morgan.

Javaun Mussenden nearly got Revs II on the board in the 14th minute after Damario McIntosh broke down the right flank and sent an accurate cross to Mussenden, who leapt into the air and headed the ball to the left side of the frame that forced Mac Learned to leap off his line and grasp the ball with both hands.

But NYCFC II would strike first, scoring in the 27th minute.

Momentum swung New England’s way in the 56th minute when the ball deflected off Joseph Suchecki’s hand inside the box, which led to Revolution II earning a crucial penalty kick. Morgan was the one to step to the spot in the 57th minute, and he converted a right-footed shot to the bottom-left corner to net his team-leading third goal of the season and level the game for New England Revolution II.

Good luck came New England’s way again in the 61st minute as Shuma Sasaki drove his way into the box and got his legs tangled with Dylan Randazzo, which led to Sasaki collapsing to the pitch as the head referee pointed to the spot for a second time. After earning the penalty, Sasaki stepped to the spot in the 62nd minute,  looking to net his first professional goal and give New England its first lead of the afternoon. Sasaki delivered as he sent a right-footed shot to the upper half of the net to give Revolution II a 2-1 lead.

Pablo Moreira’s first change came in the 65th minute as Jayden Da replaced Sasaki. Another change came in the 74th minute as Carlos Zambrano replaced Olivera.

Momentum swung once again in the 76th minute as a series of passes led the ball to Drew Kerr atop the six-yard box. With defensive pressure swarming in, Kerr flicked the ball backwards to Henrik Hvatum, who slotted it home to level the match at two apiece.

Momentum changed once again in Revolution II’s favor in the 83rd minute as a series of passes led to Damario McIntosh darting up the right flank and cutting inward. After breaking past NYCFC II’s defense, McIntosh found himself one-on-one with Mac Learned, who learned to cover the five hole as the former Revs Academy Player of the year slotted a ball perfectly between the keeper’s legs and into the back of the net to give New England a late 3-2 lead.

Despite the harshness of their recent spell of games, it was great to see Revolution II come back and handle business, walking out of Beirne Stadium with a dramatic 3-2 victory.

It’s a quick turnaround for Moreira and Revolution II as they return to action on Wednesday, May 13th. The second team travels to Kinetic Field at the WSFS Bank Sportsplex in Chester, Pennsylvania, to face Philadelphia Union II at 7:00 PM ET!
