New England Revolution II:
Sunday was an incredibly tough day for Revs II. Not only did they suffer a 4-3 loss at home to Union II, but midfielder Carlos Zambrano also suffered a gruesome leg injury that forced him to undergo surgery. Despite the emotions revolving around Zambrano’s injury, this Revolution II stood tall and kept fighting until the very end.
Following the loss, New England enters Wednesday’s contest in third place with 42 points on an 11-5-6 record and three shootout victories. An outright victory over Inter Miami would see New England leapfrog independent side Chattanooga FC for second place in the East.
Midfielder Myles Morgan looks to inch closer to club history as his 15th-minute strike against Philly increased his 2026 tally to 11 goals, and he’s just two away from tying Liam Butts’ single-season record of 13, which was set last season.
Unfortunately for Revolution II, injuries are piling up at the absolute worst time possible. Zambrano will be out after undergoing surgery following his leg injury. Defender Jared Smith also remains out as he works his way back from a knee procedure. Zambrano was not the only player to go down in the loss to Philadelphia. An unfortunate knock to first-team defender Keegan Hughes forced him off the pitch just nine minutes in.
Inter Miami CF II:
2026 has been an incredibly tough season for Inter Miami CF II as the club enters Wednesday’s contest dead last in the East with an abysmal 1-16-4 record with one shootout victory.
On top of a poor overall record, Miami enters Wednesday’s contest winless in the last three outings and has gone 301 minutes without scoring. The last goal came in the 58th minute of their first and only win of 2026, which came against Toronto FC II on July 25th.
Looking at the stats, it's clear the offense has led to Miami's struggles this season. The club ranks 28th in touches in the opposing box (391), 26th in corners (90), 30th in set piece goals (1), and ties for 20th in shots on target per match (4.5).
It shows in the overall stats, as the club has 16 goals in their 21 outings. Miami is the only club in MLS NEXT Pro with fewer than 20 goals on the season.
Despite the record, the defense isn’t playing like a team with one win on the year. They rank first in interceptions per match (12.0), sixth in clearances per match (22.2), and eighth in saves per match (3.7).
While their defense has been good compared to other MLS NEXT Pro sides, it hasn’t prevented the ball from staying out of their own net, as their 51 goals conceded is the third-most in the league and their -35 goal differential is the most lopsided.
Despite the struggles as a collective unit, some Inter Miami CF II players have had strong individual performances that Revolution II will need to watch out for. Forward Idoh Zeltzer-Zubida leads the team in goals with seven in 18 appearances. Forward Mateo Saja has also had a decent campaign with five goals in 19 appearances.
Previous Meetings:
Wednesday will mark the 11th all-time meeting between New England and Miami. Revolution II hold the major historical advantage with an 8-2-0 record dating back to both clubs’ time in USL League One.
Their lone meeting of 2020 saw Revs II walk away with all three points as goals from Nick Firmino, Justin Rennicks, Ryan Spaulding, and Tiago Mendonca led New England to a 4-1 win.
2021 saw New England sweep the season series after three consecutive 1-0 shutouts, which featured goals from Ryan Sierakowski, Pierre Cayet, and a Noah Allen own goal.
Inter Miami’s lone wins over Revs II came in the 2022 season when they secured a 2-0 and 4-2 victories at home.
2023 not only saw another sweep for New England, but they also kept Miami off the board in both of that year’s contests. An early strike from Pierre Cayet led Revs II to a 1-0 win on May 28th, while strikes from Peyton Miller and Malcolm Fry led to a 2-0 win on July 9th.
Despite the misery that was the 2024 season, New England managed to secure one of its four wins against Miami as goals from Patrick Leal, Gevork Diarbian, and Jack Panayotou led Revs II to a 3-1 win on April 28th.
The last meeting between both sides came on Decision Day in 2025 as New England capped off the regular season with a commanding 5-2 victory on the road thanks to braces from Liam Butts and Gevork Diarbian, plus an additional strike from Malcolm Fry.
