Sources: Djordje Petrovic Will Not Play Against Atlas
Here’s the latest regarding Djordje Petrovic.
New England Revolution goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic will not play in Thursday’s Leagues Cup game against Atlas FC, according to sources who spoke to The Blazing Musket.
Petrovic has not been a full participant during training this week, though he did take part in individual goalkeeping drills.
On Wednesday, the 23-year-old left practice early, going into the Revs training center early while Earl Edwards Jr. and Jacob Jackson manned the goals during a scrimmage.
Earlier in this week, Petrovic received transfer bids from FC Nantes of France and Nottingham Forrest of England. The bids were rejected.
Both European teams remain interested, though a move would be difficult because the Revolution can’t make incoming transfers that require a fee once the transfer window closes at 1 am EST.
On Wednesday, interim Revs head coach Richie Williams said, “We’re going through some things with Djordje right now that we're trying to sort out. But, again, I don't have a comment for that for you guys right now, but it's just ongoing with with Djordje. You saw that he participated in some of the training so we'll see what happens and take it one day at a time.”
When asked if if the Revs are committed to keeping Petrovic all year or if a transfer is still possible, Williams said, “Again, I don't have any comment on that. It's still an ongoing situation with Djordje right now.
“So we're very happy with Djordje. He's a great player, great person and we would love to have Djordje for 10 more years if we could. So we'll see what happens, what develops and, again, it's an ongoing situation. Again, I don't have anything more to comment on that.”
This season is unraveling pretty quickly
Petrovic isn't happy that the offers were turned down and is upset with the Revs. This is his way of showing it. It's like a kid throwing a tantrum in a store because mom wouldn't buy him the toy he wanted.
