Richie Williams, Damario McIntosh Looking to Learn From Defeat Against Union II
Despite the lobsided loss, there's a lot to learn from the experience.
Sunday saw Richie Williams suffer a second straight defeat as they were handed a 3-1 loss at home in New Hampshire against a powerhouse Philadelphia side
It was clear that Philadelphia Union II was the more dominant side in this meeting. Williams was quick to acknowledge Philly’s control of the game.
“For us, we had a difficult time dealing with their direct play, their physicality, and that was the difference in the game,” the coach said.
Damario McIntosh has clocked 642 minutes over eight appearances in 2024. Williams has been impressed with the new Revs II player.
“Damario’s a good young player,” Williams said. “He’s only 16 years old, and he’s shown he can really contribute defensively and offensively. It’s a lot for a young player at his age to go against older players, but he’s done a good job.”
McIntosh himself has noticed continued development throughout his debut campaign.
“I feel like I’ve just been getting better and better with these guys every training, every game,” McIntosh stated.
The 16-year-old was part of a young back line that let in three goals against a tough Philly offense. When asked what experiences like Sunday mean for development, Williams — surprisingly to some — said they are actually important.
“It’s great experience,” the coach said. “Especially when you play a team like that playing right down the center part of the field. They get hard and physical, so those are great opportunities for them to learn, get minutes at the pro level, and hopefully help them down the road.”
McIntosh also thought a tough experience like Sunday is good for his and his teammates' development moving forward.
“Obviously, we let three goals in, but it’s something to learn from, improve from, and move on to next week,” the 16-year-old said.
Revolution II will look to learn from Sunday’s defeat throughout the coming days as they prepare to host ninth-placed New York City FC II on Sunday, May 26th, at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium at 3:00 PM ET.
