Revolution Sign Maximiliano "Maxi" Urruti
The 33-year-old striker returns to Major League Soccer after spending 2024 in Argentina.
The New England Revolution attack got stronger as the club has signed free agent Maximiliano “Maxi” Urruti. The move was first reported by Caleb Pongratz.
After starting with the Newell Old Boys Academy, the Argentine forward ascended to the senior team before embarking on a journey to Major League Soccer. Since 2013, Urruti has played for a handful of MLS clubs, which include Toronto FC, Portland Timbers, FC Dallas, CF Montreal, Houston Dynamo, and Austin FC.
The 33-year-old has 308 appearances across the regular season and playoffs and has notched 72 goals and 39 assists over 19,811 minutes.
Urruti also racked up silverware during his time in MLS. He helped current Revolution head coach Caleb Porter and the Portland Timbers secure the 2014 MLS Cup title. Urruti also secured the Supporters’ Shield and US Open Cup titles with Dallas in 2016 and the Canadian Cup title with Montreal in 2019.
“Maxi Urruti is a seasoned veteran in MLS, with no shortage of both experience and success in our league,” Porter said. “I had the pleasure of coaching Maxi with the Portland Timbers, and he was a key piece to our MLS Cup title in 2015. Maxi is a top professional and a great guy in the locker room. His addition will strengthen the depth on our roster as we prepare to begin a new season.”
Urruti departed Major League Soccer following the 2023 season after Austin FC declined his option. Urruti then returned home to Argentina when he signed with Platense. He ended the 2024 season with eight appearances for Platense where he clocked 210 minutes.
Considering the addition of Leo Campana and Ignatious Ganago, Urruti will likely be a third option at striker. However, his vast playing experience will be a great presence for the team.
I like it. He was always someone that had me thinking we should get players like him.
Hopefully he'll be more durable than Bobby Wood!
