With Larry Berg set to take the reins of Major League Soccer, we learned what the future of outgoing Commissioner Don Garber will entail as U.S. Soccer announced that Garber will serve as the Chair of Soccer Forward, an initiative meant to accelerate U.S. Soccer’s long-term vision.
His new role will see Garber serve in a strategic advisory role that will help “rally the wider soccer community around the sport’s long‑term ambitions, accelerate efforts to expand investment, strengthen strategic partnerships, and advocate for programs and research that make soccer more accessible in every community.”
U.S. Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone says Garber’s leadership, relationships, and belief in what's possible for soccer in this country make him the right person to help us turn this extraordinary moment into long-term progress.
Garber assumes this new role with U.S. Soccer after spending 16 years with the National Football League, followed by a 27-year tenure as the second-ever Commissioner of Major League Soccer.
