Revolution II Sign Olger Escobar
Escobar becomes the 12th Revolution Academy product to ink a deal with Revs II
New England Revolution II added another piece to their attack as the Revs developmental club signed 16-year-old Academy forward Olger Escobar. Escobar is no stranger to Revolution II as the Academy product has appeared in six matches for the club, where he’s notched one assist over 210 minutes.
The Guatemalan international has seen sustained growth over the past year. Spending most of the year with the Revolution’s Under-17 squad, Escobar notched 15 goals in 17 appearances. Escobar’s efforts led to the Malden, Massachusetts native being named the MLS NEXT Under-17 MVP.
Escobar received more league honors on July 6th, as he was named an MLS NEXT All-Star ahead of the MLS NEXT All-Star Game during All-Star Week. The 16-year-old also turned heads on the international level during the Concacaf U-17 Championship as he notched four goals in Guatemala's run to the Quarterfinal.
“I’m very excited to announce that I have signed my first professional contract with my hometown club, This is a dream I’ve had since I was a little boy, I wanna thank for first of all god and also thank you to everyone who’s helped me accomplish this moment.” Escobar said on Instagram.
Escobar becomes the 12th Revs Academy prospect to ink their first professional deal with Revolution II and joins the likes of Esmir Bajraktarevic, Noel Buck, Brandonn Bueno, Malcolm Fry, Hikaru Fujiwara, Colby Quiñones, Dennis Ramirez, Meny Silva, Malcolm Fry, Max Weinstein, and Peyton Miller. He will wear #19 with Revolution II.
Revolution II return to action Sunday evening as they travel to SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois, to take on Chicago Fire II at 6:00 PM ET on mlsnextpro.com.
