New England Revolution II:
Wednesday was a doozy for Revolution II. Both sides exchanged goals throughout the first half as goals from Peyton Miller and Jack Panayotou, along with an OCB own goal, led to Revs II holding a 3-2 lead entering halftime up a man.
Jordan Adebayo-Smith made Revs history with his 10th goal of the season, while Joshua Bolma notched his first professional goal as Revolution II took a commanding 5-2 lead.
OCB was not going down silently as goals from Favian Loyola and Nabilai Kibunguchy shrunk the lead to just one. Thankfully, they held on as they secured a club-record-tying 11th win of the campaign.
Interim Head Coach Marcelo Santos is on the cusp of making club history Sunday as a win over Atlanta United 2 would give Revs II their 12th victory of the 2023 season, which sets the Revs II record for most wins in a season.
Revolution II secured 11 wins over 28 games during the club's 2021 USL League One season.
Atlanta United 2:
Atlanta United 2 comes into Sunday’s match following an impressive 3-1 victory over Eastern Conference leaders Crown Legacy FC.
It’s been a rocky season for Steve Cooke and Atlanta United 2. They enter the match outside the playoff picture in 10th place with 27 points on a 7-10-5 record with only one shootout victory.
Sunday will see a familiar face make a return to Gillette Stadium. Former Revolution Homegrown Nick Firmino comes to town for the first time since departing the club following the 2020 season. Firmino has displayed his capabilities with Atlanta United 2 this year as the 22-year-old enters Sunday’s match leading the Golden Boot race. Firmino has notched a league-leading 13 goals over 21 appearances in 2023.
Revolution II will also have to watch out for Karim Tmimi. The 27-year-old forward has notched five goals and one assist over 20 appearances with Atlanta in 2023.
Previous Meetings:
Sunday marks the second meeting between Atlanta United 2 and Revolution II.
Their first-ever meeting came during the 2023 season opener on March 26th. An own goal from Aiden McFadden, along with goals from Jake Rozhansky and Pierre Cayet, gave Revs II a commanding 3-0 lead.
When it looked like Revs II would escape with the clean sheet, two quick goals from Raimar and Nick Firmino cut the lead to just one. Luckily, Revs II thankfully held on as they secured their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory!
