New England Revolution II:
Richie Williams and Revs II come into Sunday’s match after getting the past weekend off.
Their most recent outing on May 8th saw Revolution II suffer their fourth loss of the season. Two quick goals from Aron John in the 73rd minute and Jonathan Nyandjo in the 78th minute had Crown Legacy FC rolling with a 2-0 lead late in the second half. Joshua Bolma’s first goal of the season prevented the shutout in the 88th minute.
Revolution II enters Sunday’s match in 11th place in the Eastern Conference table with 11 points on a 3-4-1 record with one shootout victory.
While the record doesn’t look the greatest on paper, Revolution II’s play at home has been outstanding. They hold a perfect 3-0-0 record at home, where they’ve outscored opponents eight to four.
Williams will be without defender Tiago Suarez, who serves a one-game suspension for the 42nd-minute red card he saw in the 2-1 loss to Crown Legacy FC on the 8th.
Philadelphia Union II:
Like Revs II, Union II enters Sunday’s match after getting a break last weekend.
2024 has been a successful one for Marlon LeBlanc and Philadelphia Union II. They find themselves in second place in the Eastern Conference with 17 points on a 4-1-3 record, including two shootout wins and a plus-seven goal differential.
Union II’s success has primarily come from Edward Davis. Through eight appearances, the 17-year-old forward has netted a team-leading four goals. Forward David Vazquez is another name to keep an eye on. Vazquez has tallied a team-leading three assists through seven appearances.
Fans may get the chance to see American phenom Cavan Sullivan. The 14-year-old Union Academy prospect made history on May 9th by signing the largest Homegrown deal with the Union’s first team through 2028 before making the journey to Premier League giants Manchester City. While there's no guarantee he will make the trek to New Hampshire on Sunday, he did clock 34 minutes as a substitute in Union II’s 2-1 win over Revs II in Chester, Pennsylvania on March 24th.
Previous Meetings:
Sunday will mark the ninth all-time meeting between New England and Philadelphia. Revolution II holds a historical advantage with a 5-3-0 record through their previous eight meanings.
Their first meeting came on May 27th, 2022, when Meny Silva’s lone goal in the 34th minute propelled Revs II to a 1-0 shootout victory. Union II secured back-to-back dominant victories with a 5-1 win on August 21st, 2022, and a 3-1 win on September 18th, 2022.
2023 saw Revolution II go undefeated against Philadelphia. Goals from Damian Rivera, Esmir Bajraktarević, Malcolm Fry, Brandonn Bueno, and Jordan Adebayo-Smith saw Revs II secure a 5-1 victory on April 10th, 2023. Revolution II’s first-ever hat trick from Esmir Bajraktarević and an additional goal from Marcos Dias saw Revs II secure a 4-3 victory on May 21st, 2023. Marcos Dias’ brace and an additional goal from Joshua Bolma saw Revs II secure a 3-0 shutout victory on August 27th, 2023.
Their most impactful meeting came on October 1st, 2023 when both sides met in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Despite two late goals from Philadelphia, a penalty kick from Marcos Dias and a brace from Esmir Bajraktarević led Revs II to a 3-2 victory and their inaugural playoff win.
Their most recent meeting came at the beginning of the 2024 season. Despite newcomer Alex Monis finding the net just nine minutes in, Union II answered with a Hesron Barry own goal and a game-winner from Sal Olivas in the 81st minute to secure a 2-1 win in Chester.
