New England Revolution II:
Richie Williams’ first competitive game at the helm of Revolution II did not go to plan when the club opened their 2024 season on the road against a shorthanded Philadelphia Union II, who had 10 players on international duty.
Things got off to a good start when newcomer Alex Monis found the back of the net in the ninth minute after getting on the end of a Marcos Dias cross.
Despite a phenomenal goal from Monis that gave Revs II an early 1-0 lead, two critical mistakes led to their demise.
The first came in the 33rd minute when Union II attempted to cross the ball into the center of the box. Unfortunately, the cross deflected off defender Hesron Barry’s shoulder and into the net to level the game.
The second mistake came in the 81st minute when Joshua Bolma slipped on the pitch, which led to Cavan Sullivan recovering the loose ball in the midfield and lobbing it forward to Sal Olivas, who ripped a shot from just outside the box, curling it to the bottom-left corner to net the game-winning goal for Union II.
Revs II sit in 14th place in the Eastern Conference following the 2-1 loss on opening day.
Carolina Core FC
Head Coach Roy Lassiter and Carolina Core enter Matchday 3 in 10th place with a 0-1-1 record. Carolina’s road trip continues as they picked up a 1-1 draw against Crown Legacy before suffering a 4-0 trouncing against Atlanta United 2 to start their inaugural campaign.
Carolina’s first-ever goal came from the head of David Polanco, who finished Kai Thomas’ cross home in stoppage time to net the game-tying goal in their 1-1 draw against Crown Legacy on March 17th.
