Report: Revolution Signing Jonathan Mensah
The veteran defender joins the Revs following time with the Crew and Earthquakes.
The Revolution is adding another face to their backline as The Athletic reports the club is finalizing a deal to sign veteran Jonathan Mensah.
The 33-year-old became a free agent after his contract with the San Jose Earthquakes expired. Mensah ended the 2023 campaign with 26 appearances for the Earthquakes, where he clocked 1,948 minutes.
Mensah’s arrival in New England reunites him with familiar faces from his tenure with the Columbus Crew as he reconnects with former teammate Ema Boateng and coach Caleb Porter. The trio most notably clinched the 2020 MLS Cup following a 3-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders.
During his six seasons in Columbus, Mensah appeared in 175 matches across all competitions, where he tallied nine goals and four assists over 15,380 minutes. Mensah also has vast experience on the international level, as he has 70 caps with Ghana.
The Ghanaian defender's addition to the backline comes after an offseason that saw the departure of Ben Reveno and veteran Omar Gonzalez. With a backline already occupied by Dave Romney, Henry Kessler, Andrew Farrell, and Santiago Suarez, it will be interesting to see how Caleb Porter utilizes Mensah.
The Athletic did not reveal any specific details surrounding Mensah’s contract.
