Report: Revolution Sign Mamadou Fofana
The Mali defender joins New England following stints in Turkey and France.
The New England Revolution is reportedly bringing in some defensive help, as reports indicate the club has signed Mamadou Fofana from French Ligue 2 side Amiens SC.
According to L’Equipe’s Flavien Trésarrieu, a deal for the 26-year-old center back has been reached that sees Fofana join the Revolution for a reported fee of €1.7 million (~$1,783,000). Trésarrieu also reported Fofana signed a three-year contract with the Revolution.
The acquisition has been confirmed by The Blazing Musket’s own Seth Macomber.
After starting his career with Stade Malien’s U-19 side in his native Mali, Fofana had stints in Turkey with Alanyaspor and Bandirmaspor before joining French side FC Metz. After spending four seasons with Metz and helping them secure promotion to Ligue 1 in 2018/19, Fofana joined Amiens in August 2021.
Since joining Amiens, Fofana has appeared in 121 matches across all competitions, where he tallied one goal and one assist over 10,448 minutes.
Fofana has also been a regular with the Mali National Team. After strong performances at the youth level that saw Mali take home the 2015 African U17 Championship, Fofana made his senior debut in October 2017. Since then, he’s appeared in 42 matches for Mali.
Fofana joins the Revolution, who have seen some drastic changes at center back over the past year, which included trading away Henry Kessler, declining Xavier Arreaga’s option, and seeing Tim Parker’s contract expire. Despite the changes, the Revolution has retained two-time Revs Defender of the Year Dave Romney and fan favorite Andrew Farrell.
Romney apparently gone to Quakers with MAK and Harkes.
It’s really hard to tell if defenders are good until you watch them for a few games.. but every new player brings hope!
