Report: Djordje Petrović Upset After European Transfers Declined
The 23-year-old goalkeeper is reportedly upset after the Revs rejecting offers from England and France.
Just one day after The Athletic’s Tom Bogert reported the Revolution received and rejected offers for Serbian goalkeeper Djordje Petrović, Bogert has now reported tension between the keeper and the organization.
Bogert took to Twitter to report the New England Revolution had received offers from Premier League side Nottingham Forest and Ligue 1 side Nantes. According to Bogert, the offers were in the $8 million range and included add-ons.
The Blazing Musket’s own Seth Macomber later reported that Both Nantes and Nottingham increased their bids for Petrovic and the offers were declined. The Nantes offer was $9 million plus $4 million in add-ons according to Macomber.
“There’s a possibility that the Revs offer Petrovic a new contract but that hasn’t happened yet,” he added.
The Revolution returned to practice on Monday as they prepared for Thursday’s Leagues Cup match against Atlas. While Petrović did some individual goalkeeping training, Bogert reported the Serbian did not participate in full-team training.
Bogert identified the cause of the friction between the 23-year-old keeper and the Revolution as a timing issue. Petrović is reportedly upset the Revs turned down the transfers as the Serbian is looking to move to Europe now while the team wants to keep Petrović until the end of the season.
It’s worth noting that a report from the Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella stated the Revs valued Petrović at £24 million.
With the secondary transfer window closing on Wednesday (August 2nd), agreeing to a transfer for Petrović and finding a replacement appears to be a logistical challenge for the club. Still, it’s something to keep a close eye on over the next 48 hours.
I do not know what to feel about this.
