Recap: Revs II Shut-Out in Regular Season Finale
With an extended break ahead of them, Revs II will look to bounce back ahead of playoff run.
Revolution II were on the road Sunday afternoon for their regular season finale against Crown Legacy FC. For their final game of the regular season, Revs II was managed by Rob Becarra after interim coach Marcelo Santos was promoted to the first team, assisting previous Revs II coach Clint Peay following the resignation of Bruce Arena from the first team. New England made three changes to the line-up from their game against Orlando, as Peyton Miller, Patrick Leal, Jack Panayotou earned starts.
The visitors had a chance to take the lead early, but Joshua Bolma’s shot from inside the box curled high and wide past the net. In the 25th minute New England’s leading goal-scorer on the year, Jordan Adebayo-Smith, came close to finding the opener after being played into Crown Legacy’s box but his shot from close range was denied by the keeper.
Crown Legacy took the lead in the 42nd minute after Nimfasha Berchimas was able to find the back of the net with a close-range shot inside New England’s six-yard box.
New England made their first changes of the game in the 61st minute as Malcolm Fry and Noble Okello replaced Colby Quiñónes and Adebayo-Smith. Following an attempt by Okello from outside of Crown Legacy’s box, the Revs made their second pair of subs in the 73rd minute, ítalo and Maciel checking into the match for Miller and Leal respectively. Maciel made his return to action after undergoing surgery to repair his left Achilles tendon in 2022 which kept him out for most of this year.
New England made their final change of the match in the 81st minute as Olger Escobar replaced Marcos Dias.
Despite a late offensive push from Revs II they were unable to find the equalizer and their final match of the 2023 regular season ended in defeat, bringing an end to the team’s historic unbeaten run.
New England Revolution II close out the 2023 regular season with a record of 28-14-6, and currently sit third overall in the league behind Colorado Rapids 2 and Crown Legacy.
The MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs, which consist of three rounds followed by MLS NEXT Pro Cup, will kickoff the weekend of September 29th.
