Recap: Revolution II 1 - 0 Inter Miami II
Revolution II hold on to secure their fourth-consecutive victory with a 1-0 win over Miami!
New England Revolution II returned to action Sunday evening as they hosted Federico Higuaín’s Inter Miami II. The home side recorded a 1-0 victory via a Pierre Cayet goal in the 8th minute.
Revolution II entered Sunday’s affair aiming to match the club’s record for most consecutive wins as Clint Peay and crew looked for their fourth straight win.
After securing back-to-back come-from-behind wins, Revolution II’s outing on May 25th did not require the comeback kids as goals from Jordan Adebayo-Smith and Ben Awashie earned Revolution II a 2-0 shutout, the club’s first of the 2023 campaign.
Considering Revs II came into the match on only three days of rest, Sunday saw six changes from Thursday. Jacob Jackson returned between the sticks with Colby Quiñónes, Pierre Cayet, Victor Souza, and Jacob Akanyirige comprising the backline. Peyton Miller, Joshua Bolma, Jake Rozhansky, and Nakye Greenidge-Duncan formed the midfield, while Weverton and Brandonn Bueno provided the attack.
Revolution II earned a golden opportunity when Ricardo Montenegro fouled Colby Quiñónes just yards adjacent to the box. Jake Rozhansky curled the ball from the left flank to space at the back post. Despite being draped in defense by Miami, Pierre Cayet worked his way to the open space, leaping into the air and heading the ball to the left side of the net to give Revolution II a 1-0 lead just eight minutes into the match.
Lucas Meek came close to finding an equalizer as he lobbed a right-footed shot from the left flank toward the right side of the goal. Luckily for Jackson and Revs II, Meek’s shot bent too far to the right as it dinked off the right goalpost and away from danger.
A case of déjà vu occurred in the 43rd minute as Lucas Meek again struck the post after his shot trailed too far to the right as it deflected off the right goalpost and away.
The goalposts were active again just a minute later, yet this time against Revolution II as Weverton’s left-footed shot deflected off the goalpost.
Jake Rozhansky was the first Revs II name to enter the book as he received a yellow card in the 55th minute after committing a foul on Lorenzo D’Agostini.
Revolution II executed a quadruple substitution in the 56th minute with Marcos Dias, Ben Awashie, Ítalo, and Malcolm Fry replacing Peyton Miller, Brandonn Bueno, Colby Quiñónes, and Nakye Greenidge-Duncan.
Revolution II looked set on scoring their second goal of the contest in the 57th minute as a long ball over the top from Pierre Cayet led to Weverton running onto the ball and finding himself one-on-one with the keeper. Weverton looked to advance toward the goal but stopped when Farid Sar-Sar took him down. Revolution II earned the free kick as the head referee John Matto issued Sar-Sar a straight red card following the infraction.
Jacob Akanyirige entered the book in the 69th minute as he was issued a yellow card.
Revolution II’s final change came in the 70th minute when Tiago Suarez came on for Jacob Akanyirige.
Jacob Jackson was booked in the 90th minute when Matto issued a yellow card to the goalkeeper for time wasting.
It wasn’t the prettiest win, but Revolution II held on to secure their fourth-consecutive victory! Sunday’s three points put Revolution II in second place in the Eastern Conference with 23 points on a 7-3-1 record with one shootout victory!
Revolution II will look to extend their winning streak to a club-record five games next Sunday, June 4th, as they travel to MSU Soccer Park to take on New York Red Bulls II at 7:00 PM ET on MLS Season Pass!
