Portland Hearts of Pine Sign Colby Quiñones
Quiñones returns to his birth state Maine after spending five seasons with New England Revolution II.
Colby Quiñones is returning to USL League One as the free-agent defender inked a deal to join newcomers Portland Heart of Pines ahead of their inaugural season.
It seemed a move to Portland was likely when Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline posted a photo following Thursday night’s Soccer Night in Lewiston that featured Quiñones dawning Hearts of Pine merch.
Quiñones joins Portland following five seasons with MLS NEXT Pro side New England Revolution II. After starting the 2020 USL League One season with Revs II as an Academy product, Quiñones joined full-time on November 30th, 2020.
During his five seasons with Revs II, the Biddeford-born defender appeared in a club-leading 92 matches. His time in New England also saw him tally one goal and three assists over 5,441 minutes.
Quiñones also has experience at the international level, as he has 11 caps with the Puerto Rico National Team and has clocked 820 minutes.
The 21-year-old defender emphasized how happy he was to return home and shared his excitement regarding the atmosphere surrounding the club.
“What excites me the most is returning to my home state…Seeing the community and culture of Portland embrace this new team is so exciting and made this move a no-brainer for me,” he said.
Quiñones and Hearts of Pine will begin their inaugural USL League One season on March 29th when they hit the road to face FC Naples.
