Oliveira and United States Secure Under-17 World Cup Berth
Thanks to their performance in the Concacaf U-17 qualifiers, the U.S. secured their spot in November's U-17 World Cup!
While Revolution II continues preparing for the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season, midfielder Cristiano Oliveira spent time competing on the international stage.
The 16-year-old Somerville native was one of 21 players selected by head coach Gonzalo Segares to represent the United States at the Concacaf Under-17 Qualifiers and attempt to secure the U.S. a spot at the 2025 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in November.
February 10th's group stage opener saw Olivera on the bench as the U.S. began their campaign with a meeting against the U.S. Virgin Islands. It was a dominant performance by the U.S. as they held an 18-0 lead before Oliveira entered the match in the 73rd minute. The U.S. scored four more as they opened the group stage with a commanding 22-0 victory.
Oliveira found himself in the starting lineup when the U.S. returned to action on February 12 as they faced St. Kitts and Nevis. Oliveira was in the right place at the right time in the 19th minute when Tanner Rosborough received a pass inside the box and flicked it back to the Revs II midfielder, who slotted it past the keeper to give the United States a 2-0 lead. Five more goals saw the U.S. remain unbeaten thanks to a 7-0 victory!
February 15th’s finale saw Oliveira on the bench as the U.S. wrapped up the group stage against second-placed Cuba. Things looked good for the U.S. after they found the back of the net twice in the opening half. Oliveira entered the match in second-half stoppage time and helped guide the U.S. to a 2-0 victory over Cuba while securing the top spot in Group F and a spot in November’s U-17 World Cup.
