Olger Escobar Named Revolution Academy Player of the Year
Escobar becomes the ninth recipient of the award following a standout year with Revs II and the Academy!
New England Revolution II forward Olger Escobar’s work was recognized on Friday as the 17-year-old was named the Revolution Academy Player of the Year for the 2022-2023 MLS NEXT season.
Escobar dominated with the Revs U17s as he tallied 15 goals over 17 appearances with the youth side. Escobar’s efforts led to him being named an MLS NEXT All-Star before being named the U-17 MLS NEXT MVP.
Despite the U17s exiting the MLS NEXT Cup early, Escobar ascended to the U-19 squad that went on to win their second straight championship in July.
Olger Escobar’s efforts led him to debut with MLS NEXT Pro side Revolution II on April 21st. After making a handful of appearances off the bench, Escobar became the 11th Revolution Academy product to ink a deal with Revolution II. Escobar ended the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season with 16 appearances, where he tallied one assist over 479 minutes.
Revolution Technical Director Curt Onalfo said Olger is “very deserving of this honor. He’s an incredible talent and we are all proud of how far he has come since joining our program.
Onalfo added that “Olger has a bright future ahead of him and we are excited for his continued growth within our pro pathway.”
Olger Escobar joins Zachary Herivaux (2014), Justin Rennicks (2015, 2016), Joe Britto (2017), Kevin Vang (2018), Tyler Freitas (2019), Trevor Burns (2020), Noel Buck (2021), and Jack Panayotou (2022) to become the ninth recipient of the award.
An exciting player to watch on the pitch. Congrats Olger.
