Concacaf Champions Cup Quarterfinal Schedule Released
Those dang motorcycle enthusiasts
The New England Revolution now know when they will face Club America in the Quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup and Revolution fans will be quite angry at some gearheads for ruining the club’s second-leg advantage.
The first leg takes place at Gillette Stadium on Tuesday, April 2 (9:00 p.m. ET), and the second leg at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on Tuesday, April 9 (10:30 p.m. ET).
Per Concacaf rules, the highest-ranked club in the Concacaf Champions Cup standings will host the second leg which would have meant that New England hosted the second leg.
“Due to the availability of their stadium, the New England Revolution will play the first leg at home, followed by the second leg away,” the schedule announcement states. “This switch was requested by the New England Revolution and accepted by Concacaf and Club America.”
What is happening at Gillette Stadium that could hamper the Revs’ ability to host the second leg?
So Revolution fans have Monster Energy Supercross to blame for the club losing the second leg advantage. That advantage is a big one as MLS teams are 5-32 in two-leg series with Liga MX squads when the second leg is on the road. They are 8-18 with the second leg at home.
The cards were already stacked against New England when America advanced, now it will take a massive effort from the Revolution to advance to the next round.
That is just absolute BS. So they sabotage their MLS season to make a run for the CONCACAF cup and then sabotage their cup run by giving up the home field advantage. Just a typically stupid Revs thing to do. Some things never change
There's also an expo at the stadium the day we'd probably be hosting (4/9), and Wednesday or Thursday may be too close to our Saturday league game.
