Vermont Green FC head coach Chris Taylor has stepped down as manager of the club. Taylor is stepping down to focus more on his family.
This is not goodbye," Taylor said in a letter announcing his decision. "I hope one day I can return to Vermont Green when the time is right. This club will always be my club. I will now transition to a fan who helps to pack Virtue, and one who wants this club to continue reaching new heights and collecting trophies. I have so much more to say, but as is often the case with the magic of Vermont Green, I can’t put it all into words. This club is more than words; it is more than football. It is everything."
Taylor led the Green to back-to-back USL League Two championships in 2025 and 2026, and never lost in his 42 competitive matches in charge. Additionally, he led Vermont to another championship in the 2026 Hank Steinbrecher Cup.
“At a club that values relationships, cultural understanding, and passion, Chris is everything we could have hoped for in a Head Coach,” Vermont Green FC sporting director Adam Pfeifer said in a statement. “He encouraged players to express themselves on the field while providing the structure and leadership needed to win trophies. We shared a vision for an exciting, attacking style of football, and his enthusiasm for coaching gave all of us moments of joy and memories that will last for years to come. Growing up in Liverpool, Chris experienced firsthand the powerful connection between a club, its supporters, and its community. He brought that understanding to Vermont and helped many of us see and feel the game through that same lens. Through his passion for football and his belief in its ability to bring people together, he taught our players not only how to love the game, but also how to cherish the community that grows around it.”
Taylor's 2026 side scored 85 goals and conceded just 14 in 19 USL2 matches, a +71 goal differential. He completes his tenure with an all-time record of 35W-7D-0L in 42 matches across all competitions.
"To the people of Vermont, the people who pack Virtue, the Green Mountain Bhoys," Taylor wrote. "Thank you for your unconditional support. This club is special because of you. Winning means less if you don’t have people to share it with. I remember the first home game with 1,000 people, and we didn’t think it could get any better, but you showed us it was just the beginning. I will never forget the way you took this club to your heart and helped us achieve greatness. Our success is your success and I look forward to joining you in supporting the Green in the future. Thank you for the banner, but it is time for a new one and I hope the next Head Coach gets the same love and support you have provided me."
