Javaun Mussenden Feeling Great After Professional Debut
Hear what the 16-year-old Revs Academy prospect said after getting his first taste of professional soccer
Wednesday’s scoreless draw and shootout loss to Eastern Conference frontrunners saw another name etched onto the long list of players to make their professional debut as 16-year-old Revolution Academy prospect Javaun Mussenden subbed on in the 70th minute.
Despite only playing 20 minutes, there was a lot Richie Williams liked.
“He’s a good player in the midfield,” Williams said. “He covers ground, he plays very simple. His best position is either a six or an eight in the middle part of the field. I thought he did well and helped us. He gave us fresh legs in the middle of the park, he held the ball for us.”
Williams also believes Mussenden has a bright future.
“I think he’s going to be a good player,” he said. “He’s one of our better Academy players. I think if he continues to play the way he plays, he’ll have a future as a pro.”
Mussenden said he “felt great” after making his professional debut.
“You work your whole life for this, and to step on the field with older guys, you want to go out there and prove yourself. It felt good,” the 16-year-old said.
Mussenden lives in the Residency house with Peyton Millerand is excited to follow in the footsteps of fellow Academy players who have made the jump to the second team.
Mussenden will look for a second-consecutive appearance on August 18 when Revolution II hits the road to face Columbus Crew 2 at 6:00 pm ET.
