Duben Returns for Third Season With Western Mass Pioneers
The Argentine will captain the Pioneers on their return to the U.S. Open Cup.
With their first game in the U.S. Open Cup just eight days away, the Western Mass Pioneers announced the return of forward Tomás Ignacio Duben after hinting the signing on Monday via X.
Duben has played for the Pioneers for the past two years, playing an important role in their attack. His nine goals and 10 assists helped the Pioneers qualify for the play-offs in both of his seasons at the club. In his time at the club, Duben has become an influential figure at the club and was named captain last season.
Prior to his time in the USL League 2, Duben played for the Velez Sarsfield youth teams until his contract expired with the Primera División club. After leaving, he played for several third tier clubs in Argentina before arriving to Ludlow in the summer of 2022.
Duben will captain the side in their U.S. Open Cup match against Union Omaha on March 21st at the Lusitano Stadium in Ludlow, Massachusetts.
The club also confirmed that he will wear the number 7 jersey this year.
The Western Mass Pioneers will then kick-off their USL League 2 campaign on Tuesday May 14th in an away game against the Boston Bolts.
The transfer is still pending league and federation approval.
