Cristiano Oliveira Features in U.S. Under-17's Lopsided Win Over Virgin Islands
The Somerville native clocked 18 minutes off the bench during Monday night's commanding victory!
Gonzalo Segares and the United States Under-17 National Team took the field for the first time on Monday when they squared off against the U.S. Virgin Islands in Concacaf Under-17 Qualifying action.
Segares’ starting lineup saw William Mckay start in goal. Pedro Guimaraes, Ramiz Hamouda, Christopher Cupps, and Giovanni Villa provided the defense as Jude Terry, Cooper Sanchez, and captain Maximo Carrizo were in the midfield. Lorenzo Cornelius, Chase Adams, and Chance Cowell were the three up top.
Somerville, Massachusetts native and Revolution II midfielder Cristiano Oliveira started Monday’s match on the bench.
The opening 45 minutes was nothing but an onslaught by the United States. Thanks to seven goals from Chance Adams, three from Maximo Carrizo, two from Chance Cowell, and singular strikes from Pedro Guimaraes and Jude Terry, the United States found themselves up 14-0 lead at halftime.
The second half got off to a hot start for the U.S. as goals from Ramiz Hamouda, Jude Terry, Chase Adams, and Maximo Carrizo had the United States rolling with an 18-0 lead
Oliveira’s night began when he substituted into the match in the 72nd minute.
The United States kept their foot on the gas as two goals from Chase Adams plus two more from Jamir Johnson and Kellan LeBlanc propelled the U.S. to a dominant 22-0 victory over the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Monday’s dismantling sees the United States Under-17s take firm control atop Group F. They’ll look to further the gap on the table on Wednesday when they face Saint Kitts & Nevis at 8:00 PM ET.
