By The Numbers: The 2024 New England Revolution II Season
Take a deep dive into Revolution II's historically bad 2024 season.
New England Revolution II’s deflating 2024 campaign came to a disappointing close on Sunday following a 3-1 defeat at home against Columbus Crew 2. The second team finished their fifth season with an abysmal 4-18-6 record and four shootout victories.
After nearly making the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro Cup Final, Revolution II went on to not only have their worst season in their five-year history but nearly had one of the worst seasons in MLS NEXT Pro history. Let’s look at the numbers.
-22: Revolution II ended the season with an appalling -22 goal differential. It marks the lowest goal differential Revs II has seen. The lowest prior came during their 2022 season when they finished with a -15 goal differential. Revolution II’s -22 goal differential sets a three-way tie for the tenth-lowest goal differential in MLS NEXT Pro history.
0: 2024 saw Revolution II become the second team in MLS NEXT Pro to end the season without a win away from home. They went an abysmal 0-13-1 record with one shootout win. On top of their horrid road record, they amassed a -19 goal differential away from home.
0.79: After a 28-game regular season, Revolution II finished 2024 with 0.79 points per game. It marks the lowest PPG figure the club has seen with the previous low being the shortened 2020 season that saw Revs II amass a 1.13 PPG after securing 18 points in 16 games. Revolution II’s 2024 points per game sees them tied for the third-lowest PPG in league history. 2023’s Inter Miami II (0.79), 2022’s FC Cincinnati 2 (0.71), and 2022’s Timbers2 (0.58) are the only clubs to match or have a lower point per game total than the 2024 New England Revolution II.
4: Revolution II finished the season with four wins. It marks their lowest win total. The previous low was in 2020 when they amassed five wins during the shortened USL League One season. Four ties the second-lowest win total in MLS NEXT Pro history. Only 2022’s FC Cincinnati 2 (4), and Timbers 2 (2) matched or had a lower win total than the 2024 Revolution II.
6: August 4th’s 3-2 loss to Atlanta United 2 marked Revolution II’s sixth consecutive loss, which marked the club’s longest losing streak. The previous record was four that happened in the 2020 and 2022 seasons.
April 14th saw the Revolution II suffer a disappointing 6-2 loss on the road to New York City FC II. It marked the most goals Revolution II had conceded in a match. Revs II had conceded five times on two occasions prior.
6.65: Revolution II ended the 2024 season with the second-lowest FotMob score in 2024. 6.65 FotMob marks their second-lowest FotMob rating in club history. Their worst came in 2020 when they ended their USL League One season with a 6.51 FotMob rating. It marks the sixth-lowest FotMob rating in MLS NEXT Pro history.
7: 2024 saw an astonishing seven red cards be brandished to Revolution II. It was the most any MLS NEXT Pro team saw in 2024. Their seven reds are tied for the third most red cards received in league history. They tie 2023’s Orlando City B and Inter Miami with seven while trailing the 2022 Orlando City B and 2023 New York Red Bulls II, who saw eight.
16: Moshtaba Al-Hasnawi, Hesron Barry, Andrej Bjelajac, Luka Borovic, Liam Butts, Giovanni Calderón, Gabriel Chavez, Gevork Diarbian, Grant Emerhi, JD Gunn, Sage Kinner, Damario McIntosh, Javaun Mussenden, Robert Nichols III, Cristiano Oliveira, and Alex Parvu made their professional debuts with Revolution II in 2024.
18: May 4th saw Marcos Dias set a club record when he netted his 18th goal in a Revolution II uniform! Dias has since upped the all-time leading goal-scoring record to 24 after ending the season with a club-leading nine goals.
October 6th's season finale saw Revolution II suffer their 18th and final loss of the 2024 season. Not only was it the most losses suffered in MLS NEXT Pro that season, but it's in a three-way tie with the 2024 Colorado Rapids 2 and 2022 Timbers 2 for most losses in a single season.
37: Revolution II found the net 37 times in 2024, which is tied for the lowest number of goals scored in MLS NEXT Pro in 2024. While low compared to the rest of the league, 37 marks the second most goals Revs II have scored in a season. The most came during their highly successful 2023 campaign when they found the back of the net 57 times.
59: Revolution II saw 59 balls cross the goal line and crash into the net. It marks the most goals the club has allowed in their five-year history. The previous highest was 42 in 2022.
418: Revolution II’s offense unleashed a league-leading 418 shots in 2024, yet a fourth-worst 36.8% of those on target. Their 418 shots are tied for the sixth-most shots taken in a season in MLS NEXT Pro history.
2,125: Eric Klein ended the 2024 season with 2,125 minutes under his belt. Klein became the seventh player to eclipse 2,000 minutes in a season on September 29th.
