Alex Monis Named Player of Matchday 8
Monis receives the honor after netting two goals against his former club in Revolution II's nail-biting 3-2 win over Chicago Fire II!
While netting two goals in a victorious outing at home is sweet, Alex Monis’ week got even sweeter on Monday when the Revolution II forward was named MLS NEXT Pro’s Player of Matchday 8.
Things got started for Monis in the 39th minute after a lobbed ball up the left flank landed at the feet of Marcos Dias. Dias flicked the ball to his left to Gevork Diarbian, who cut the ball to Monis in the center of the box. Monis easily tapped the ball into the net to give Revs II a 1-0 lead.
A poor giveaway by Chicago bore fruit for Monis in the 54th minute. After snatching the ball off the feet of a Chicago defender, Monis dribbled across the top of the box before ripping a shot to the bottom-right corner past Patrick Los and into the net to double Revolution II’s lead.
Monis capped off his two-goal performance with 18 completed passes on 23 attempts, created three chances, blocked one shot, and won seven of ten ground duels while amassing a 9.0 FotMob rating.
Monday’s honor marked the first time a Revolution II player had taken home Player of the Matchday since Esmir Bajraktarević received the honor for 2023’s Matchday 9 after netting a hat trick against Philadelphia Union II.
Monis and Revolution II will look to build upon May 4th’s win as they hit the road to face Crown Legacy on Wednesday, May 8th at 7:30 PM ET.
