The New England Revolution defeated the Columbus Crew 2-1 on Matchday 8 of the 2026 MLS season. Here are three stats that defined the match.

50

It was a historic night as Carles Gil scored his 50th goal for the New England Revolution on Saturday. This makes him just the second member of the 50 goal and 50 assist club for the Revs, with Lee Nguyen being the other name. Additionally, Matt Turner secured the 50th win of his career with the Revs.

This is just another feather in Gil's cap. He has to be the greatest player in Revolution history.

At 33 years old, Gil is entering the twilight of his career. We are much closer to Capi's retirement than its peak. This moment provides a time to reflect on just how good Gil is.

We will be telling future generations that we got to watch Gil play. We will tell them of his great long balls and the numerous times he put defenders on skates.

For Turner, the goalkeeper has come up big when New England asks and will go down as one of the top shot-stoppers in club history.

It will be interesting to see what happens as Turner's loan nears its expiration. If New England could re-sign him as a non Designated Player it would be a great deal.

0.02 xG

Dor Turgeman deserves credit for the goal he scored. According to SofaScore the diving header had a 0.02 xG.

The play exemplifies exactly what New England needs in a striker. Turgeman was able to win the ball and head it home.

Leo Campana has struggled to make an impact in the air so far in New England so the play by Turgeman was promising. The Revs need a player who can go up and win headers in the box. They haven't had a striker like that since Adam Buksa left.

Hopefully we can see more goals like this from Turgeman moving forward.

3

New England won its fourth straight home game to start 2026, a feat that they only have done two other times as well. The most recent occasion was the 2021 Supporters' Shield winning campaign.

If the Revs could win another Supporters' Shield, that would be pretty cool. It would be even cooler if they won an MLS Cup.

But it is important to temper expectations. Fans should just be happy if New England makes the postseason. Anything more is cherry on the top and any worse is unacceptable.

After seasons of digging themselves into a hole, New England has given itself some margin for error. Even if the Revs stumble, they should hopefully be able to bounce back and stay above the playoff because of the success they have had early on.
