For many, Carles Gil is already the best player to put on a New England Revolution uniform, but the midfielder added another milestone to his impressive resume.

Gil stepped to the penalty spot with the game on his shoulders, a familiar feeling for the captain. Throughout his time with the Revs, the Spaniard has been responsible for New England's goal creation.

As he is prone to do, Gil converted with a calm curling shot right down the middle. It gave New England the lead and eventually three points.

But it was more than just a game-winning goal, Gil scored his 50th goal of his career with the Revolution. It brought him into New England's 50/50 club with only Lee Nguyen tallying 50 goals and 50 assists for the club in regular season play.

“New England is the most important club in my career," Gil told media in the locker room. "I’ve spent many, many years here, and I am very happy. Obviously, coming from two difficult years, I want to win. Winning games is the way that everyone is happy every day. We are coming from difficult years, and I am very proud of what we are doing right now. It’s the beginning of the season, and we need to be better and better. We have many things to improve but we are on the way.”
