New England Revolution II:
Moreira and Revs II come into Thursday’s meeting looking for their first win in July after suffering a 4-0 loss to Union II and securing a point with a 2-2 draw and shootout loss to Crew 2 in their last outing.
Thursday will also see Moreira and Revs II look to move up the table. They enter their match against NYCFC II tied for fifth place in the Eastern Conference with 32 points, an 8-4-5 record, and three shootout victories. A good result at home could see them move into a tie alongside Orlando City B for third place.
A big part of Revolution II’s success in 2026 has come from the feet of newcomer Myles Morgan. The former TFC II and Whitecaps 2 prospect has excelled with Revs II in his debut season, tallying a team-leading seven goals and an assist in 16 appearances.
Midfielder Carlos Zambrano has been another help for Revs II as the former Syracuse Orange has tallied three goals and four assists in 15 appearances.
With first-team keepers J.D. Gunn and Donovan Parisian away with the first team, former Academy goalkeeper Max Weinstein has stepped up and delivered, guiding New England to a 3-2-1 record in his last six appearances while making 10 saves in the process.
As a collective, possession and ball movement have been key for the club. Revs II ranks 10th in average possession with 53%, while ranking 18th in accurate passes per match (355.6), fifth in touches in the opposition’s box (496), first in accurate crosses per match (6.5), and tied for fifth in accurate long balls per match (29.7).
Revolution II will be without some key names entering Thursday’s affair. Defender Jared Smith underwent successful surgery to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee, and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks. Defender Damario McIntosh and midfielder Javaun Mussenden will be unavailable as the pair return to the international stage. McIntosh (Jamaica) and Mussenden (U.S.) will represent their nations during the upcoming Concacaf Under-20 Championship in Mexico.
It’s also unclear if several names who have been helping the first team prepare for its upcoming return to MLS action will be available.
New York City FC II
It’s been a mostly strong season for Matt Pilkington and his NYCFC II side as they come into Thursday’s contest tied for eighth place in the East with an 8-5-3 record with one shootout victory.
While 2026 has been a mixed bag for Pilkington and NYCFC II, their recent run of form has been nearly impeccable, entering the contest with a five-game unbeaten run with wins in four.
A large part of NYCFC II’s success in 2026 has come from Homegrown Cooper Flax, who leads the team with seven goals along with two assists in his 16 appearances.
Forward Sebastiano Musu is another threat New England has to manage in this one as he’s netted five goals and two assists in 14 appearances.
As a collective, defense has been crucial for New York City in 2026. They rank first in interceptions per match (11.8), third in tackles per match (20.7), and tie for third in clearances per match (24.1), second in set piece goals conceded (3), and 11th in saves per match (3.5).
Previous Meetings
Thursday will mark the 13th all-time meeting between New England and New York City. Revolution II have been the clear favorites in the series with a 6-3-3 record and two shootout victories in their first 12 meetings.
2022 was a mixed bag of results as their first encounter ended in a 2-2 draw, with New England securing the additional point following a 4-3 shootout victory, followed by a 4-0 loss and a scoreless draw that saw NYC secure the extra point in the shootout.
Revolution II secured its first win over NYCFC II on April 23, 2023, as goals from Jordan Adebayo-Smith and Esmir Bajraktarevic secured a 2-1 victory. Both sides split the remaining two contests in 2023 as NYCFC II secured a 4-2 win while New England wrapped up the season series with a 1-0 shutout victory.
2024 was not a kind year for New England as the club conceded six times in a 6-2 defeat on April 14. May 26 saw Revs II walk away with a point following a 3-3 draw and a 4-3 shootout loss.
Since then, it’s been smooth sailing, as the club picked up the win in all four meetings in 2025, which included 2-1, 2-0, 3-1, and 3-2 victories.
