While the New England Revolution are about to return from the World Cup break, they will still be without one of their top strikers.

Leo Campana has yet to return to full training and has been sidelined for four months with what commentators described as an ankle injury back in March. His last appearance was a 20-minute appearance off the bench against St. Louis CITY SC on March 21.

While he is yet to train, head coach Marko Mitrovic is hopeful that the striker will be back within the next month.

“Yeah, Leo [Campana] had a setback at the very end of the first part of the season," Mitrovic said. "Now his recovery process is going well. There are, so far, no setbacks. We’re hoping in the next three to four weeks that we will have Leo back."

During the break, New England has looked to add at the position. The club brought in Wilson Harris who most recently played in Israel but had a prolific career in the USL Championship.

Harris returns stateside after two years in the Israeli Premier League, playing for Maccabi Netanya. In 18 league appearances in the most recent season, Harris tallied five goals and one assist.

Prior to playing abroad, the Los Angeles native spent three years with Louisville City FC, scoring 46 goals in 107 matches across all competitions. He departed Louisville as one of the top goal scorers in club history.

Revolution assistant coach Blair Gavin has spoken highly of Harris and noticed that his work rate illustrates how he will fit in with the group.

Additionally, the Revolution recently made the acquisition of Marcos Zambrano permanent. The striker was originally on loan but now has been permanently acquired by New England.

Zambrano has appeared in two regular season matches for New England, making his MLS debut on May 13 against Nashville SC. The forward also started both matches in the U.S. Open Cup, scoring his first senior goal on April 29 against Orlando City SC.

Without Campana, a lot of the pressure will fall on Dor Turgeman. In 14 games played this season, he has scored two goals and three assists. That is the same goal-scoring output as Alhassan Yusuf and Brayan Ceballos as well as being bested by Peyton Miller.

Campana is under contract through 2027 with an option year for 2028. Considering he was acquired for over $2 million in General Allocation Money; his unfortunate health history and lack of scoring have made the acquisition a relative failure.

If he continues to struggle to score goals and stay healthy, his future on the squad has to be questioned. While a buyout is unlikely, as the expiration of his contract inches closer, the Revs could attempt to move the striker and get him off of the books.
