New England Revolution II midfielder Carlos Zambrano’s first strike for the club led to some league recognition on Saturday as he was voted as the winner of the Goal of Matchweek 6 award following his strike against Red Bull New York II.
Zambrano’s strike came in the 65th minute as Tobias Szewczyk’s handling of the ball outside the box led to the goalkeeper’s dismissal and awarded New England a free kick just outside the penalty area. After a few minutes of pause as New York subbed on a new keeper, Zambrano stood over the free kick and proceeded to curl it over the Red Bull wall, past an outstretched Tomas Hut, and into the net to level the match.
Zambrano joins Patrick Leal and Maciel, who won it in back-to-back weeks in 2024, as the third recipient of the award.
