New England Revolution II bolstered its backline on Wednesday as the club announced the signing of defender Jared Smith through the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro season with a one-year club option for the 2027 season.

The 23-year-old signs his first professional contract after spending the last five years at the collegiate level with Quinnipiac and Seton Hall.

Smith’s time with Quinnipiac saw him tally two goals and seven assists in 40 appearances for the program during the 2020, 2021, and 2022 seasons. Following his time at Quinnipiac, Smith joined Seton Hall, where he tallied six goals and six assists in 30 appearances during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

In addition to his collegiate experience, Smith also spent time with USL League Two side Western Massachusetts Pioneers from 2021 to 2025. His time with the Pioneers saw Smith tally a goal and 17 assists in 52 appearances for the club.

Smith’s signing comes as Jake Shannon and Gabe Dahlin appear to be suffering from knocks at the moment. Dahlin has been out of action since clocking 90 minutes against Atlanta United 2 in the 2026 season opener. Shannon missed Sunday’s meeting against CT United after playing all 90 minutes in matches against Toronto and Cincinnati.

Smith will have plenty of time to get acclimated as Revolution II is amidst a two-week break with their next contest not until April 12th, as they host Red Bull New York II.
