New England Revolution II:

After a phenomenal start to the 2026 season that saw the club go undefeated in its first four outings, it’s been a mixed bag in terms of results since, as the club enters Sunday’s contest in 10th place with 11 points on a 2-2-3 record with two shootout victories.

A big problem for Revs II as of late has been the club's ability to put the ball in the back of the net. Their seven goals on the year are tied for the second-fewest across MLS NEXT Pro.

Looking at some of the advanced stats, it’s clear that Revs II put in the work offensively, but have just struggled to find and capitalize on chances.

They rank ninth in completed passes per match (386), tied for fourth in accurate long balls per match (31.9), and first in accurate crosses per match (5.7). The problem is they are tied for the third fewest shots on target per match (3.9) while putting up the eighth fewest shot attempts (102).

The thing that’s kept New England competitive in 2026 has been the defense. It comes into Sunday’s contest tied for second fewest goals conceded (0.9), tied for sixth in clean sheets (3), tied for ninth in interceptions per match (10.6), and 13th in clearances per match (20.4).

New York City FC II:

2026 has been a difficult year for Matt Pilkington and his NYCFC II side. They come into Sunday’s match just behind Revolution II in 12th place with nine points on a 2-3-2 record with one shootout victory.

Like New England, New York has struggled to find the back of the net. They have the fewest goals scored in MLS NEXT Pro this season, with six in their opening seven matches.

Despite ranking eighth in average possession (53.8%), NYCFC finds itself dead last in goals per match (0.9), tied alongside Revs II for the third fewest shots on target per match (3.9), and 21st in accurate long balls per match (22.4).

Despite their offensive woes, NYCFC II’s defense hasn’t been too bad. They rank toward the middle of the pack in goals conceded per match, clean sheets, and saves per match, while ranking fifth in interceptions per match (5.9) and seventh in clearances per match (21.9).

Previous Meetings:

Sunday will mark the 12th all-time meeting between New England and New York. Revolution II holds the historical advantage with a 5-3-3 record over NYCFC II.

New York dominated in the beginning, going undefeated in 2022 with two draws, a shootout victory, and a win.

Revolution II’s first victory over New York came on April 2, 2023, as goals from Jordan Adebayo-Smith and Esmir Bajraktarević secured a 2-1 win for New England.

New York walked away with all three points following a 4-2 victory on May 6, 2023.

New England got back into the win column on June 14, 2023, as Malcolm Fry’s lone goal in the 57th minute led to a 1-0 win.

NYCFC II pulverized New England on April 14, 2024, as New York secured a 6-2 victory over Revs II.

Since then, Revolution II has held firm control of the series as they’re undefeated in their last four meetings with New York.

Following their 3-3 draw and 4-3 shootout victory on May 26, 2024, New England has gone on to secure  2-1, 1-0, and 3-1 victories over NYCFC II in 2025.
