The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 draw took place on Thursday, as the New England Revolution joined 15 other MLS clubs and the 16 clubs that advanced through the first two rounds.
New England found themselves drawn into the Cobi Jones Group alongside fellow MLS side Orlando City SC, USL Championship side Rhode Island FC, and USL League One side FC Naples.
Thanks to some Open Cup Magic, the New England Revolution found themselves paired alongside Rhode Island FC. It’s a bit of déjà vu for both sides as 2025’s edition of the Open Cup saw both sides square off inside Centerville Bank Stadium as a late go-ahead goal from Cristiano Oliveira propelled New England to the next round.
While New England held hosting privileges entering the Third Round, it won’t necessarily feel like a home game as Gillette Stadium is unavailable due to ongoing preparations at the venue for this summer’s World Cup.
With Gillette out of the picture, New England will host Rhode Island FC inside Centreville Bank Stadium, the home of Rhode Island FC, on either Tuesday, April 14th, or Wednesday, April 15th. Exact details on the Round of 32 match will be announced soon.
“We learned today that we were going to play against Rhode Island. We had a preseason friendly game with them, and I think it’s going to be a big challenge for us," Revolution head coach Marko Mitrovic said. "Those games, knockout games, are always very specific games that give an opportunity to every team to have a strong belief that in 90 minutes they can get a good result and go to the next round. We have our ambitions in U.S. Open Cup, and we want to go until the end."
