Pablo Moreira and his Revolution II squad will look to inch closer to club history when they return to action in Rhode Island! Catch up on everything you need to know before Revs II return to the pitch.
Opponent: Chicago Fire II
Date: Sunday, June 21st
Time: 11:00 AM
Venue: Beirne Stadium, Smithfield, Rhode Island
Broadcast: OneFootball TV & MLS YouTube Channel
Weather: Sunday looks to be a pleasant day at Beirne Stadium. Temperatures reach 76° at kickoff and rise to the low 80s throughout the match. Expect partially cloudy skies with slight wind.
New England Revolution II:
Revolution II have been flying as of late as they enter Sunday’s contest amidst a seven-game unbeaten run that sees them close to making club history. A win or draw over Chicago would see them take sole possession of the second-longest unbeaten run in club history, and would put them four results away from tying the club’s longest unbeaten run of 12 set during the 2023 season.
A large part of Revolution II’s success in this unbeaten run and in 2026 has been the bond everyone, from the coaching staff to the players, shares. Head Coach Pablo Moreira said it’s part of his players’ DNA.
"We have high-character individuals in that locker room," he said. "I think these guys being tight-knit and having high-character individuals is a testament to our camaraderie.”
Newcomer Myles Morgan has put the offense on his shoulders in 2026 as the midfielder leads the club in goals with five goals in 13 appearances.
Goalkeeper Max Weinstein has had a good start to the year after making his 2026 debut on June 7th. The Montpelier native has made four saves over the last two games and secured a clean sheet while helping Revs II walk away with two victories.
Sunday won’t be the first time Revolution II takes the pitch. Earlier this week, Revolution II players, along with Revs Academy prospects and Academy alumni playing Division I college soccer, traveled up to Waltham to play a training match against the French National Team.
Sunday could also see two names make their return to the pitch as defenders Schinieder Mimy and Chris Mbaï-Assem continue working their way back to full health. Mimy has missed three matches since clocking 85 minutes in May 17th’s 1-0 win over Orlando City B. Mbaï-Assem has missed four matches after being forced off in the 36th minute of May 13th’s 1-0 win over Philadelphia Union II.
Chicago Fire II:
Things have not gone to plan for Mike Matkovich and his Chicago Fire II side in 2026, as the club enters Sunday’s match in 12th place in the Eastern Conference with 19 points on a 4-5-4 record with three shootout victories.
On top of a rocky record overall, the road has not treated Fire II as they are winless away from home with four losses, two draws, and two shootout victories. Hopefully, that trend continues on Sunday.
Looking at the stats, it's clear that Chicago’s offense as a collective has been the hindrance. The club enters Sunday’s contest last in shots on target per match (3.5), tied for 20th in big chances (26), 21st in accurate passes per match (328.7), tied for 28th in accurate long balls per match (18.8), and 20th in touches in the opposing box (283).
The defense hasn’t been much better as they rank 24th in interceptions per match (7.8), 27th in clearances per match (16.8), and tied for the second-fewest saves per match (2.5) and third-most in set piece goals conceded (7).
If available, first-teamer Dean Boltz is a player Revs II will have to watch as he co-leads Fire II in goals with three and has two assists to his name.
Darris Hyte is another name to watch for as he co-leads alongside Boltz with three goals on the year.
Midfielder Damyan Villanueva has been another crucial factor in what Chicago’s offense has produced, as he leads the team in assists with three.
Sunday will see a familiar face as former Revolution defender and current Fire II Assistant Coach/player Omar Gonzalez pays a visit to town. The former U.S. international spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons in New England, tallying a goal in 37 appearances across all competitions.
Since joining Fire II in a player-coach role, Gonzalez has made one appearance for the club, clocking 32 minutes off the bench in a 2-2 draw and shootout loss to Orlando City B on April 26th.
Previous Meetings:
Sunday will mark the 12th all-time meeting between New England and Chicago. It’s been a pretty even series between the two as each side holds a 3-3-5 record over the other, with New England holding the 3-2 shootout advantage.
Both sides squared off for the first time on June 26th, 2022, as Chicago Fire II walked away with a thrilling 4-3 victory. Pierre Cayet’s 52nd-minute strike sealed three points for New England on August 14th, 2022, as Revs II walked away with a 1-0 win.
2023 saw both sides split the points evenly, as each side secured a shootout victory following draws in the year’s two meetings.
2024 was another near-even split. May 4th saw Revs II pick up all three points with a 3-2 win, while Chicago picked up a 3-2 win off their own on July 21st. August 31st saw Revs II walk away with two points following a 1-1 draw and a 4-2 shootout victory.
Revolution II walked away with another two points on June 9th, 2025, following a 2-2 draw and a 5-4 shootout victory. July 13th, 2025, saw New England walk away with all three points after strikes from Cristiano Oliveira, Malcolm Fry, and a brace from Liam Butts led to a 4-3 victory.
Chicago Fire II walked away with two points on August 31st, 2025, after a 2-2 draw and a 3-1 shootout loss. Their most historic meeting came on October 19th, 2025, when Revs II and Fire II met in the opening round of the MLS NEXT Pro Cup Playoffs. It was a pretty even match until the 86th minute when David Poreba put the ball into the back of the net to secure the 1-0 victory for Chicago.
