The New England Revolution is set to make another massive trade, per Give Me Sport’s Tom Bogert.
According to Bogert, the Revs are “nearing a deal” to send center back Henry Kessler to St. Louis City SC in exchange for veteran center back Tim Parker plus additional allocation money.
Friday’s deal comes two days after the Revs completed a similar deal that saw DeJuan Jones go to Columbus Crew in exchange for Will Sands and up to $600,000 in GAM.
Kessler joined the Revolution organization on January 9th, 2020, after the Revs selected the University of Virginia prospect with the 6th overall selection in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft. The New York City native appeared in 110 matches across all competitions for the Revs, where he tallied four goals over 8,895 minutes.
Parker began his MLS career in 2015 after the Vancouver Whitecaps selected the St. John’s University prospect with the 13th overall selection in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. After three seasons in Vancouver, Parker had spells with the New York Red Bulls and the Houston Dynamo before joining St. Louis via trade in November 2022.
Through a season and a half in St. Louis, the 31-year-old defender appeared in 56 matches across all competitions, where he tallied six goals over 4,895 minutes. Parker made club history on February 25th, 2023, when he netted the first goal in St. Louis City SC history in a 3-2 win over Austin FC.
With both defenders making a million-dollar salary, the Revs won’t receive any cap relief. Yet Parker’s contract expires at the end of 2024 and features no option for 2025, while Kessler had 2025 guaranteed plus an option for 2026.
The Revolution returns to action on Tuesday, August 6th, when they host Nashville SC in their League Cup group stage finale at 7:30 PM ET.
