The New England Revolution are reportedly set to add some depth to its attack as The Athletic’s Tom Bogert reports the club is set to acquire forward Marco Zambrano on loan from Real Salt Lake.
No exact details on the length of the reported loan were unveiled, but Bogert adds to his reporting that the deal would include a purchase option.
Zambrano, 21, began his youth career with Ecuadorian side CS Norte América before traveling to the United States to join Philadelphia Union’s Academy. During his time in Philly, Zambrano got his first taste of professional action, making two appearances with Philadelphia Union II.
2023 saw Zambrano’s career take him to Portugal as he joined Benfica's Under-23 side. His time with Benfica’s youth side saw Zambrano tally a goal and two assists over 18 appearances for the club. He also made a singular appearance with Benfica's reserve side.
Following his time with Benfica, Zambrano remained in Portugal, joining Vitória Guimarães SC B. Zambrano did not see much action with the reserve side, clocking just seven minutes in two appearances.
Zambrano returned to the United States in July 2025, as he signed with Real Salt Lake. Since arriving in Utah, Zambrano has featured exclusively with the club’s MLS NEXT Pro side, Real Monarchs, where he’s tallied five goals in 10 appearances.
While Zambrano has tons of experience at the club level, he also has experience at the international level. Zambrano has been a regular with the United States Youth National Team since debuting in 2022. He’s tallied two goals in 10 appearances with the U19s while tallying six goals in 17 appearances for the U20s.
A move to New England would see Zambrano reunite with US U20 Head Coach Marko Mitrović. Zambrano most notably tallied a goal in five appearances under Mitrović at the U20 World Cup.
Reports of Zambrano’s loan come days after Leo Campana exited March 21st’s loss to St. Louis City 19 minutes into the game after suffering an ankle injury. With Campana’s status unknown, Zambrano provides some much-needed depth to the striker position.
The New England Revolution return to action on April 4th when they host CF Montreal at 4:30 PM.
