A famous poet once said, "pain heals... glory lasts forever," and New England Revolution winger Peyton Miller lived out those words on Wednesday evening.

Miller was forced to leave New England's 2-1 loss in the first half after colliding with Richie Laryea. Both players had to get their heads bandaged, and there were concerns that Miller had potentially suffered a concussion.

Luckily for Miller and the Revolution, Miller did not suffer a concussion and was able to play against D.C. United on Wednesday. While he had around 10 stitches and a large band-aid above his eye, Miller played a key role in New England's first goal, heading a cross from Jack Harrison centrally to Alhassan Yusuf, with the Nigerian burying the chance.

“Regarding Peyton [Miller], he showed a high level of toughness, because he had that situation [last] Saturday," Revolution head coach Marko Mitrovic said when asked by The Blazing Musket about Miller. "Luckily it wasn’t a concussion and he was ready to recover. Even though that he has like 10 stitches on his eye, he really showed his teammate qualities and stepped on the field to help us perform and win this game. I’m very proud of Peyton, because those are the steps that every player has to go through. Peyton is someone who is very young and may be facing some things for the first time in his life, but the most important thing is how we are going to bypass those challenges. Peyton is doing a really great job, and I can say I’m proud of him and nothing else.”

Miller has demonstrated that toughness before. He is consistently willing to put his body on the line, whether blocking a shot, sprinting across the pitch, or getting pushed into the advertising boards to win possession.

Beyond making an impact on the field, Miller's performance shows how committed he is to the team. While some players might have sat out the match until they didn't need a bandage, Miller wanted to be there for his teammates.

“I think it’s the mentality, it's something that we need in this team," Yusuf said after the match. "You have to try and give everything for the team. Of course, if you can’t play then that’s something different. But if you have the chance and can play, then you can see today. [Miller] went out the last game, he trained well, and had a good game today. So, that’s a really good mentality.”

Sometimes this can be a slight issue for Miller as it can lead to him getting hurt. After dealing with an injury at the start of the year, he has managed to stay healthy but throughout his first team career he has been banged up at some point over a calendar year.

But that determination is what drives a player to greatness. There is a reason that European clubs have been interested in Miller. When the time is right, he will become the next Revolution success story.

For now, Miller is playing an important role in New England's success so far this season and helped them return to its winning ways on Wednesday.
