Victor Souza Happy to Return
Hear what Souza had to say after making his first appearance since June 1st.
Revolution II returned to action on Sunday and secured two points following a 2-2 draw and 6-5 shootout victory.
Defender Victor Souza made his return to the pitch for the first time since Chattanooga on June 1, as he replaced Damario McIntosh in the 61st minute. Souza marked his return by completing 16 of 20 passes, getting 21 touches on the ball, completing four defensive actions, and recovering the ball twice over 29 minutes.
The former Boston College defender said it “felt good” to make his first appearance in almost 100 days and added, “it was a long time coming”.
It’s no secret that long, extensive recovery processes can be hard on any athlete, but Souza had a good support system.
“Just being around the guys helped me a lot,” he said. “It’s tough to watch from the side, but injuries are a part of it, so you got to deal with it the best you can and look forward to your return date, and that’s what I did.”
Richie Williams was ecstatic to have Souza back.
“It’s great to have him back the coach said. “He’s been out so long. He’s a big player for us. He’s worked really hard to get back and I thought he had a solid outing. He’s someone we believe might have a chance with the first team in the future.”
While it took a long time, it’s good to see Victor Souza back on the pitch, as he’s been a big part of the Revs II back line throughout his tenure. With four games left and Revs II out of the playoff picture, it’s the perfect time to gradually get Souza back to full fitness ahead of 2025.
Would have been nice to know what his injury was, but unlike other teams/leagues, to the Revs that's top secret.
