Vermont Green FC Signs Former MLS Midfielder
The Green look to be the top team in Northeast Division
Vermont Green FC made another big move as they have signed Siad Haji for the 2024 USL League Two season.
Haji was drafted by the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft and ended up making 15 appearances for the Earthquakes over three seasons.
“Siad Haji is a dynamic player that will bring a lot to the table here in Vermont.” said Head Coach & Sporting Director Adam Pfeifer. “His quality and his experience on the field, on top of his unique ties to our local community, will make him a leader in the squad and a key part of achieving our goals in 2024.”
His last season affiliated with the organization came in 2022 when he made 7 appearances for the second team in MLS NEXT Pro. He tallied a goal and an assist. Haji spent the 2023 season with FC Tulsa of USL Championship where he made 188 appearances and tallied an assist.
On the international level, the midfielder was a part of the United States youth national team setup from 2013 to 2016. In 2020, he accepted his first call-up to a Somalia national team camp, making his debut in 2022 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualification match.
With his experience in MLS and the international stage, Haji will be the first Vermont Green FC player with first team appearances in MLS as well as the first Vermont Green FC player with senior international caps.
But Haji isn’t the only player that The Green have recently added as midfielder Diego Batista to the roster. Batista is a product of the Benfica Academy and played collegiately for Providence College in 2023.
The midfielder started all 17 games for Providence, scoring one goal and five assists.
